3 Pet Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring is right around the corner, which means it’s an excellent time to clean and organize you and your pet’s life with these 3 pet spring cleaning tips! While there are certain pet items that should be cleaned regularly in the year, spring is a great time to deep clean items often forgotten about. With this list, you’ll help increase your pets’ happiness with an organized and clean environment!

3 Pet Spring Cleaning Tips

Clean Pet Items Regularly Throughout the Year

There are some pet items you should try to keep clean regularly throughout the year with weekly, biweekly, or monthly cleanings. Spring, however, gives you a great time to really deep clean these items — and plan a cleaning schedule for the year ahead.

These items should be cleaned regularly:

  • Pet beds should be cleaned biweekly or monthly, especially if you have a dog that is always playing outside. Cat beds can go a bit longer without being cleaned or thrown in the wash — and spring is a great time to do this.
  • Collars and leashes should also be cleaned often. Try to clean them every time your dog gets groomed!
  • Anything your pets wear regularly should also be cleaned regularly. Use judgment calls on how often to wash these items.
  • Food and water bowls should also be cleaned frequently, at least weekly or biweekly to keep bacteria at bay.
  • Litter boxes should also be cleaned regularly — and deep cleaned often throughout the year.
  • Toys can actually be cleaned, depending on the material, or at least wiped down often!

As many of these items should be cleaned regularly, spring is a great time to remember to do so and even start a little schedule to remind you to keep these items clean, if needed!

Set a Grooming Schedule

This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning grooming. Spring is also a great time to stay on top of a grooming schedule throughout the year by planning ahead. Keep your pets’ nails trimmed and your dogs’ groomed throughout the year. And always stay on top of regular, scheduled vet visits!

Organize Pet Items

During spring cleaning, organizing pet items is one of the best things you can do. As you organize and clean your own items, also organize and clean your pets’ items.

Start with your pets’ food and treats. Go through and throw out anything that is expired. Spring also gives you a great time to organize all your pets’ treats and food, if desired!

Toys can also be thrown out during this time if they are completely ruined and no longer played with. Organizing toys by putting together a little toy box can also help!

How often should I change out my dog’s collar and leash?

Wash your dog’s collar and leash whenever you wash your dog to keep it clean and in good condition. However, over time, as the material wears out, you may need to replace the items as they start fraying. Keep an eye on this!
