A daily routine for a puppy can be incredibly beneficial for owners who are having trouble setting boundaries for their new puppy. Consistent, daily routines for your new pup can also go a long way in training your little guy or gal! Dogs work wonderfully with schedules and patterns. By using these tips below, you can develop a daily schedule that works for both you and your puppy!

What is a good way to schedule potty breaks for a puppy?

It’s best to try to take your puppy outside for potty breaks every two to four hours. Keep up a regular routine of this to try to help your puppy with potty training!

Keep a Consistent Feeding Schedule

Puppies will eat everything if they have the chance. To keep from overfeeding them, keep your pup on a consistent feeding schedule every single day. Puppies actually need to eat three times a day, compared to an adult dog’s once or twice a day, so try to schedule these feedings around your own three meals.

Make Time to Exercise and Play

A puppy always has a lot of energy. So, if you’re looking to make a daily routine for a puppy, you’re going to need to designate a lot of time for play! It’s often best to play with your pup when you wake up in the morning, then again in the morning before you head off to work or start your day, whenever you return home from work in the afternoon or early evening, and then at night before you settle down for bed.

The goal is to help your pup play around as much as possible so they’re not causing chaos in the early hours of the morning. A bored puppy can often mean a destructive puppy. If you work during the day, it might be beneficial to have a dog walker walk your pup in the afternoon, or to drop them off at doggy day care for a few hours!

Schedule In Sleep Time

Puppies need to sleep a lot. While it seems like these little guys always want to play, puppies actually need up to 16-18 hours a day of quiet sleep! Schedule nap times after play sessions and when you’re working. Also, it may help to try to settle down for the night around the same time each night to help put your dog on a pattern!
