Struggling to find a way to relax your dog at night? So many pups can get very hyper in the evening and zoom around… right when you’re getting ready for bed. Below, we’ve listed a few tips to help calm your dog down and get ready for bed, creating their own little sleep schedule right alongside your own!

Keep Them Mentally and Physically Active Throughout the Day

Oftentimes, dogs can get very hyper and excited in the evening because they still have so much energy. Dogs need daily mental and physical stimulation. Keeping your pup active mentally and physically throughout the day, therefore, can help keep those nighttime zoomies at bay.

Obviously, this can become difficult when you work during the day. To keep them from becoming bored while you’re gone, leave out their favorite toys, as well as some puzzle games with treats hidden in them. Then, when you get home, a nice long walk with your pup is a great way to help them exert some energy, as well as spend some quality time with you!

If you have a very hyper and energetic dog, sending them to doggy daycare is an excellent way to keep them happy while you’re at work. The same goes for puppies, who always seem to have so much energy!

Slow Things Down Calmly at Home

Once the evening hits, calm down your home as best you can to relax your dog at night. This especially can help anxious dogs who might be energetically acting out because they feel stressed in some way. As you wind down for the night, try not to get them hyper or excited.

If your dog is quite anxious, always give them a safe space to run off to. Often, keeping an open crate or a bed in a quiet area can do the trick.

Spend Quality Time With Your Pup and Get Them Ready For Bed

Just as you have your own nighttime routine, so should your dog! Dogs work wonders with routines in place, so creating a nighttime schedule for your dog can help them realize that it’s time to calm down for the night.

Spending quality time with them in a calm, relaxing manner can help. When you watch TV, just cuddling with and petting your dog can help calm them down.

This time can also be used to get your dog ready for bed with a nice hygiene routine. Brushing your dog and cleaning their paws before bedtime is another great way to calm your dog down and prepare them for bed. Plus, if your dog sleeps in bed with you, this helps keep both of your sleeping areas clean!

Why is my dog pacing at night when I sleep?

Often, dogs can pace at night when you’re sleeping because they are feeling stressed or anxious about their environment. Storms, fireworks, or loud situations may be to blame. Help by giving them a safe space to hide out.
